Hi Lindsay,
I man our firm's main Twitter account, and I do three things to track it:
1) Using the standard Twitter interface, I track how many new followers we have each month. (The main interface is still my go-to for finding new people/companies/industries to follow.)
2) Using bit.ly, I track how many click-throughs to our website we get from Twitter - this is also letting me compile long-range data on which tweets are the most effective.
3) Using TweetDeck, I track how many RTs and Mentions we get each month.

You can find us @Baker_Donelson, and me @ValerieNelan. Hope this is helpful!
